A veneer is a thin material that is placed on top of a person’s tooth in order to restore its appearance. It is one of the most popular dental procedures because of the fast results that it gives to the patient. In today’s generation, even children are known to have veneers applied onto their teeth.

What people tend to forget to do is to properly care for their veneers.

These materials are also susceptible to damage if not cared for properly.

Below are five steps in trying to take care of veneers.

The first step is to treat the veneers like a normal tooth.

This means brushing the teeth at least twice a day. Even if the veneers are synthetic materials, they are still prone to grow some plaque as regular teeth do so proper cleaning and flossing is important.

As stated above, floss regularly. Flossing ensures that a person will have healthy gums because the stuck food does not decay in the cracks between the teeth. Healthy gums mean healthy teeth. If the gums start to recede, the appearance of the veneers will be obvious and another change should be done.

To avoid constant meeting with a las vegas implant dentist, only use veneers for chewing food. They are not meant to withstand huge amounts of stress. Do not try ripping off plastic, tearing hard things and pulling with veneers. Increasing the pressure on the veneers will cause them to twist and eventually break.

In connection with stressing the veneers by biting on foreign objects, try to avoid biting into nuts, peanuts, shells and ice. Hard foods do not help with prolonging veneers, and breakage will cause another meeting with a las vegas implant dentist. A veneer is attached with a thin layer of bonding cement that can easily be removed if pressured by biting onto hard food.

Finally, always keep in contact with the las vegas implant dentist who applied the veneers. Always give the dentist information on how the veneer feels in the mouth and whether there are any changes in the comfort. Listen to what the dentist says in how to take care of the veneers. They will normally tell a patient to always wear protective mouth gear when playing sports, to protect the veneers and the other teeth found in the mouth.
